Why are my references numbered in citation order and not alphabetically?
That is the Vancouver system: references are numbered in the sequence they appear, and the list is read in the same order. Alphabetic ordering belongs to author date styles such as Harvard, which are a different page here.
How many authors before the list is shortened?
The usual convention is to list up to six authors and then add et al. The reference is built with the authors you enter, in the surname followed by initials form Vancouver uses, so you control where the list stops.
Can I use this for a journal that wants superscript numbers?
