That last point is the one that matters for applications, because most large employers screen resumes with software that reads the text layer and discards anything it cannot parse.
How to build one
- Fill the header first: name, one phone number, one email, one city, one link you actually maintain.
- Add experience with the job title, organisation and dates, then two to four bullets per role. Start each bullet with a verb and end it with a result, a number if there is one.
- Add education, then skills as a short list of things you could be tested on in the interview.
- Pick a layout. A single-column layout parses most reliably; two-column layouts look sharper and can confuse older parsers.
- Download the PDF and open it. Then copy a paragraph out of it: if the text does not paste, the file is an image and no applicant tracking system will read it.
A worked example
A second-year student with one internship and a campus project fills: header, one internship (three bullets), education (degree, college, expected year, CGPA), two projects, and a skills line. That is about 350 words and fits on one page at 10.5 pt with a 0.6 inch margin.
If it spills to a second page with only three lines on it, the fix is to cut, not to shrink the font: drop the high-school entry, merge two project bullets, and remove adjectives ("passionate", "hardworking") that carry no information. A resume at 8 pt to fit one page is harder to read than two clean pages, but for a student with under five years of experience, one page is still the right target.
Mistakes worth avoiding
Sending a design-tool export with text as outlines. It looks perfect and reads as an empty page to a parser.
A skills list that names every tool you have opened. A short list you can defend beats a long one you cannot.
Dates that do not add up, or a "current" role with no start date. Recruiters check, and a gap explained in one line is not a problem while an unexplained one is.
A file name like resume_final_v3.pdf. Use your name: it is the only thing on a hiring manager screen that identifies whose file it is.

Yes. The downloaded file is a real PDF built from text, not a picture of a page, so the name, headings, and every bullet are machine readable and searchable. Nothing is exported as an image, and the layout uses a single column of standard section headings.
Which resume template should I choose?

Should my resume be one page or two?

Which layout should I choose?
Single column for anything submitted through a portal. The two-column and sidebar layouts are safe for a human reader and for direct email; if the portal is strict, the simpler layout removes a risk you cannot see.
Can I include a photo?
The builder supports one, but where you are applying decides whether you should. In the UK, US and Canada a photo on a CV is usually omitted, and some employers remove it to avoid bias.
Does it work offline?
